He wouldn’t take no for an answer and Papa couldn’t distract him with something else, so Noey had a good time with his paints last night.

At least he got the colours kind of close!
In all honesty, his favourite part was squeezing paint into the paint palette. My least favourite part was trying to stop him from wasting all that paint as he filled the palette till overflowing. We all heaved a sigh of relief when he was done and there was no permanent damage done to the environment and things around.
I hope he doesn’t want to try Van Gogh next!
I had gotten Noey 3 books from the Anholt’s Artists series after our visit to the Van Gogh Alive exhibition in an attempt to educate him on art — on Monet, Van Gogh and Degas. Love them all. The illustrations are rendered in a manner that seeks to (loosely) imitate the artists style and the books incorporate pictures of the actual artwork of the artist. These were a great introduction for children to the persons and the work of these famous artists.
“We saw this!” said Noey when he saw the rendering of Van Gogh’s Starry Starry Night. Well, you’re right, we did see the likeness of it, baby. But one day, I hope we will be able to bring you to see the real deal. And I guarantee you’ll be blown away.
If it bothers you that he's wasting paint, try using watercolour "cakes", you know, those that come with a whole palatte of solid pieces of watercolour? Probably not as vibrant, but at least it won't be wasted. Even if the colours get a little mixed, a wet wipe will get the top layer off and you should be able to get a clean layer underneath…. unless of course, he decides to

He also has ikea poster paints, but somehow the paint he loves to just squeeze out and waste are the more expensive finger paints. Sigh!
I like that you extend beyond just seeing the exhibit and try to nurture an interest in the arts for him!

I bought the whole bunch of Anholt's Artist series too… just that we've not started on it yet. Love the series!
I do like his color swirls. In those shades of blue and green, the end result is rather calming on the eye and mind!
Sounds like he's quite a tactile kid! Maybe you could make your own goopy colours with food colouring and starch for him to muck around with?
