I thought the days of struggling to feed Noey his meals were over, but alas, after a good 3-month run, those difficult days seem to be making a reappearance.
The little man is teething, and teething with a vengence. He’s had his central and lateral incisors on both his upper and lower jaws for a while now, but recently cut the canines and first molars on his upper jaw. That already gave him some grief but now it looks like the same teeth are trying to break through on his lower jaw and it’s really getting to him. Poor baby. He’s now got his fingers in his mouth all the time.
Needless to say, it’s a bit hard to squeeze a spoon in between all that, especially when Noey’s never been too big on food. (Why, his food-loving Mama really can’t understand.)
Moreover, little bits in his food like rice and bits of veg seem to routinely get stuck in his new teeth or on his palate. “Stuck! Stuck!” he’d regularly complain while working his jaw furiously to try to get rid of the offending bit of food. As a result, he scrutinises the spoon suspiciously now when it’s brought near his mouth and refuses those with the little bits of veg in them. Argh.
The throat infection that he came down with last week also did not help.
The food is going down, thankfully, but slowly and the calvary (music being played, songs being sung, books being read, toys to play with) has had to be brought in.
I do hope this will soon pass! Afterall, he doesn’t even like milk and I really don’t think he should be surviving on his baby bites, as much as he would love to.
Hang in there, mummy. Being in a similar situation as you, I do envy mothers of children who naturally love food. They have a different problem though : they can't get them to stop eating!

Hmmm, have you tried the little contraption by Munchkins? It basically looks like a pacifier, but instead of a teat, has a little net. You can freeze small fruit or pieces of fruit and give it to him to chew on… as the fruit defrosts, it comes out in a mash due to the netting, and might provide some comfort to his gums.
