We took the opportunity last Sat, since Nat is back, to do the tourist thing and check out the Singapore Flyer. We'd received rather ho-hum reviews about the ride from others, which resulted in us having pretty low expectations prior to the ride. But this probably turned out to be a good thing since we found that we actually enjoyed ourselves. Haha. It is quite fun picking out and viewing certain landmarks from a different angle, like our office buildings and the National Stadium, and the giant ... read more
Hello, Stove!
Reading Corsage's weekly chef posts and some other food blogs made me realise that, geez, I really missed my own homecooked food. So this past week, I've been itching to come home early in the week to whip up some dinner for the 2 of us.I wanted to keep it simple, since I was going to have to shop for groceries as well as do the cooking the same night -- the hazards of not cooking regularly and hence having a poorly stocked fridge. But you know that very unhelpful power of suggestion that tends ... read more
Which to Frame?
Straw poll time!DD's been itching to frame up several photos taken during our recent trip to US. It's rare that he would want to hang stuff on the walls - this husband of mine likes to keep the home looking clean (read: spartan). But probably because Yosemite was just so beautiful that he's got a number of photos that he wants to blow up BIG.We've unfortunately got limited wall space - I certainly don't want huge photos all over! - so he's currently vascillating between printing all 3 photos ... read more
Tis the Season for Durians!
We've been hankering after durians, but being the lazy people that we are, it was only when other kind souls decided to buy the durians that we got our hands on some! KL and Weng sent out the invite and we gladly descended on Weng's place on Fri night to get our hands on the good stuff. It's actually been quite a while since we've all met up so it was a great time to catch up, especially with Nat back in town for the 1st time in almost 3 years. No better time to bring out the durians, I ... read more
Fun with a Guilty Conscience
My parents can be so funny sometimes.DD and I had met with my mum for a spot of shopping around United Square yesterday, and when it was time for dinner, my Mum suggested a Jap restuarant in the area that she frequents regularly at lunch time when she's around Novena. When we arrived at the restaurant, we realised that (at dinner at least) it was primarily a sushi restaurant and they only served a rather limited menu of set dinners. Since virtually every set had sushi or sashimi of some sort, ... read more
Chugging into Our Neighbourhood
They've announced the new extensions to the MRT line and it looks like we will have an MRT station literally right next to us. In 2015.CRAP.At the risk of sounding ungrateful, I have to say that I think it would be a great thing to have an MRT station at our doorstep. Just NOT when they're BUILDING it. The thought of my estate being like Holland Village - with the accompanying road diversions, construction and dust - makes me shudder. Sigh. Well, we have till mid next year to enjoy the greenery ... read more
3rd Tri!
Babycentre's 27 week notification popped into my mailbox to remind me that I'm officially into the 3rd trimester - Yikes! Where did the 2nd trimester go? But even without the notification, I've also noted with some resignation that I've been feeling a little more tired and my body a little more heavy recently. DD's been rather amused that I seem to be such a textbook case when it comes to the general symptoms of each trimester, albeit on a milder scale: 1st tri -- sleepy and somewhat nauseous, ... read more
Little Miss Eryn
Little Miss Eryn has arrived! And being the excited aunties (oh dear!) that we are, we popped down to visit the new little one and the happy new mummy.WH was in good spirits, rather matter-of-factly walking us through the entire process of her 7 hours of labour. Overall, I think her advice could be condensed into 2 points: 1) With epidural, everything is good, and 2) Since you're on epidural, if you feel any pain, dial up the dosage. Her doctor's advice in this respect made a lot of sense: If ... read more
3 Weddings
I thought I was done with weddings for a while after the bumper crop over the last 2 year, but suddenly over the late June and into early July, I ended up attending 3 weddings in 3 weeks!Wedding #1 - Jess & SY's - on 21 June was an involved affair, since both the bride and the groom were individually friends of ours before they became a couple. And in case you are wondering, NO, we didn't set them up -- another mutual friend of theirs did the honours and shall live with their eternal gratitude. ... read more
“And the Police Car goes…”
More frivolous shopping = a great way to spend a weekend? This time DD was in on the act with me, though I guess I instigated it. Little Being has no crib, no home essentials and no real room (since we are only just kicking off the process to get his room sorted so he won't have to live with cupboards full of books and files (and handbags and lego) in the study) but he's got wall decorations!Couldn't resist these awfully cute and colourful canvases from Splatter. They were participating in a fair ... read more
