The Nightingale by SRT {Giveaway}

August 7, 2014 by Mummybean 30 Comments

It's time for another production by the Singapore Repertory Theatre! Last Saturday, Noey and I were treated to the opening performance of The Nightingale, the latest offering by SRT's The Little Company (TLC). Like Rapunzel, which we caught and loved earlier this year, The Nightingale is based on a well-known fairy tale, this time by Hans Christian Andersen. It tells the tale of the Emperor of China who hears and is enchanted by the song of a nightingale. Desiring to hear her song day and night, ... read more

Child’s Play at the National Museum of Singapore {Giveaway}

August 5, 2014 by Mummybean 17 Comments

In addition to Masak Masak, Children's Season at the National Museum of Singapore this year also saw the launch of Play@NMS, the first dedicated area in the museum for young children. Tucked away on Level 3 of the museum, Play@NMS, unlike Masak Masak, is a permanent gallery designed with the purpose of helping children take their first-steps towards museum-going, with interactive exhibits and special activities that encourage learning through play. Stepping into the Concourse at level 1 of the ... read more

Waiting on His Mercy and Grace

August 2, 2014 by Mummybean 6 Comments

There are many things we take for granted -- that I used to take for granted. Like smooth pregnancies, which both of mine were, the general aches and pains and heartburn notwithstanding. And my kids, happy, healthy and active, and delivered without any major complications. I had assumed that the first trimester of pregnancy was when you tiptoed around a bit, and that once you eased into the second trimester, you could breathe more easily and enjoy the process.It isn't me but my sister who is ... read more

Masak Masak at the National Museum of Singapore

July 30, 2014 by Mummybean 1 Comment

I am a big fan of the annual Children's Season, which is a month-long extravaganza of child-centred activities at our local museums, organised by the National Heritage Board. Unfortunately this year, we weren't able to attend many events, no thanks to an already full schedule. But the one event we did make time for was Masak Masak: My Childhood at the National Museum of Singapore, and I'm glad I did, because this has been an exhibition that both children every enjoyed.Let's Play!Without Art ... read more

Cleaner and Better-Tasting Water with 3M Water Filter Systems

July 18, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

With the weather being as hot as it is these days, one of the things we've all been doing a lot more of is DRINKING MORE WATER.I must confess that drinking more water daily is something that my husband has been nagging me to do for ages. I just don't have the habit of drinking a lot of water, which isn't great, considering that drinking lots of water has a whole host of benefits, including giving you great skin. I am really feeling my age these days and looking it. (Ahhh!!) So I'm diligently ... read more

World Cup 2014: Germans Always Win

July 15, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

After a month of excitement and too much late-night TV, the World Cup has drawn to an end, with Germany being the worthy winners. Guess I should have bought that Germany shirt huh! But I'm glad the Germans won. They were my 3rd team, after Italy and Spain. I was quite taken by the "new Germany" when Jurgen Klinsmann and his then-assistant Joachim Loew first unleashed Lahm, Schweinsteiger and gang 2006, though glad that they still lost to Italy in the semis. Since then I've sat up whenever ... read more

Papa The Volunteer

July 13, 2014 by Mummybean 8 Comments

Term 3 is Project Term over at the kids' kindy. And of all the topics, what topic should Noey's class choose for their project after brainstorming with their teacher but LEGO! Mei's class chose Duplo. What are the odds of that huh! This is all right up my husband's alley of course, so when they asked for parent volunteers, I felt he was obliged to volunteer and contribute to his children's learning, and he gamely agreed to do. That's how my husband ended up going to school to kindy to ... read more
