Teaching the kids Chinese - and getting them comfortable with the language - is an on-going endeavour in this household.Among the things we have tried are:1. The P1 Registration Milestone

July 9, 2014 by Mummybean 9 Comments

I don't think I was quite fully prepared for this milestone of milestones: P1 Registration.I mean, I was definitely fully prepared where the process was concerned. I read up on the documents required, marked down the relevant date, reminded myself many times not to forget, took out all the necessary documents and set them aside. (I forgot the photocopies but thankfully that was easily rectified at the school bookshop.)I've been prepared for years, really, having discussed our options many times ... read more

An Underwater Chinese Adventure with KidStartNow

July 8, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

Whenever the school holidays roll round, I am always caught in a dilemma when faced with the question of how to fill our days. Should I sign the kids up for holiday camps? Or should we wing it on our own? When faced with the choice, my preference is usually for the kids and I to hang out together and do our own thing. After all, there's already too much to do!But the one thing I never say no to is the opportunity for the children to get more exposure to Chinese. So when Noey was invited to ... read more

It's been a while since I posted a recipe on this blog! While I was thinking about where I wanted to go with this blog, a couple of nice things happened. Specifically, a couple of nice people came up to me separately and told me that they had tried my recipes and liked them. I was very very encouraged. Thank you for trying my recipes! I've since decided to dedicate a bit more time and blog space to sharing more of my favourite recipes plus some other foodie joints which I like. I'm targeting to ... read more

An Active Fresh Morning at the Rise & Shine Carnival

July 1, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

I love starting my weekends right, which for me, means getting a good breakfast and having a little fun at the same time. Guess it's not surprising that I was up bright and early for the Rise & Shine Carnival a couple of weeks ago! Despite the fact that we'd just returned Malaysia the day before, I woke up ready to enjoy some family time on The Lawn @ Marina Bay.I wasn't the only one with this idea -- The Lawn was packed with families by the time we arrived, with many apparently turning up ... read more

Of PTMs and Kindy Updates

June 27, 2014 by Mummybean 1 Comment

As the school holidays draw to a close and the kids get ready to go back to school, I took myself back to how they ended the term in a bid to get my head straight for the term ahead.I always look forward to the Term 2 parent-teacher meeting as it gives me a chance to get some real feedback from their teachers to find out how they are faring, as well as how they behave when I'm not around. It's also a chance for my husband to speak to the teachers and look at the kids' work since he doesn't go to ... read more

Onboard RSS Persistence at Navy@Vivo 2014

June 25, 2014 by Mummybean

It isn't everyday that you get invited on board a warship. A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to get on board the RSS Persistence, a Landing Ship Tank (LST) of the Singapore Navy. This was part of the Navy's public outreach programme. At Navy@Vivo, the public were given the chance not only to tour RSS Persistence, but also get up close to a Super Puma helicopter, a Light Strike Vehicle Mark II and several other vehicles. We even got to ride the Fast Craft Utility (FCU) out to sea. ... read more
