It isn't everyday that you get invited on board a warship. A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to get on board the RSS Persistence, a Landing Ship Tank (LST) of the Singapore Navy. This was part of the Navy's public outreach programme. At Navy@Vivo, the public were given the chance not only to tour RSS Persistence, but also get up close to a Super Puma helicopter, a Light Strike Vehicle Mark II and several other vehicles. We even got to ride the Fast Craft Utility (FCU) out to sea. ... read more
My Young Musketeer at Absolute Fencing
This June holiday, we have been trying to train a little fencer in the family with Noey taking part in the Holiday Young Musketeers programme at Absolute Fencing. He has always been keen to pick up the art of swordplay, and our family fencing session only fuelled his interest further, so I thought this was a good opportunity for him to really get a taste of what fencing entails. My husband and I were keen for him to try this out as, if you know my son, you'll know that balance and ... read more
Behind The Scenes: Writing Process Blog Hop
Today, I'm going to be introducing you to what goes on behind-the-scenes (or in-front-of-the-screen, really) on this blog as part of a little blog hop that I'm participating in. I was supposed to post this a few weeks ago, but I figured it's better late than never! I was introduced to this blog hop by my friend Lyn, a Mum with two lovely girls who blogs at Little Blue Bottle. Lyn and I first connected over the fact that our first-borns are born within days of each other. We then came to ... read more
Travelling with Petite Travellers
We've mostly been grounded this June school holidays. Save for a short trip up north to Malaysia for our annual church camp (and Legoland thereafter!), we've mostly been hanging around Singapore and keeping very busy. My husband thinks I'm incapable of taking it slow and sometimes I think he's right. But whilst we have not been travelling much, travel has very much been on our minds, and today, I'm excited to be able to share something that a group of my friends and I have been working on. ... read more
Barney & Friends Live at City Square Mall
I remember first watching Barney & Friends with my kid brother way back in the 90s. I was never a big fan, but then again, I was already way past the age when Barney would appeal to me. So I didn't expect to be in line to catch Barney & Friends in their latest live performance. But I now have two kids. Two kids who, when I asked the question: "Do you want to go watch Barney?" responded with resounding cries of "YES!!!"And that's how I ended up rushing down after a very busy Saturday ... read more
Happy 88th Birthday Mama!
DD's sweet little grandmother turned 88 on the 6 June, and just about the whole family turned up to celebrate. It was dinner for everyone at Ah Yat's Seafood at Turf City. My first time there and I was surprised to find that it was HUGE! And packed on a Friday night. The food wasn't bad -- seafood is always good in my books -- and with the reasonable pricing, I guess I could see the draw! Before dinner, the kids had a great time checking out all the seafood in the tanks outside at Unique Seafood ... read more
Happy Father’s Day, Awesome Dads!
Is it just me or does Father's Day seem more low-key than Mother's Day? It is a pity, because it seems to suggest that Mums are more valued than Dads. But that really shouldn't be the case, because Daddies are important. They matter. And we sure do need them as much as we need our Mums. Well, this year, I decided that I couldn't let Father's Day go without celebrating some of the awesome Dads that I know so I roped in some of my Mummy friends to help with a little Instagram tribute on ... read more
Dressed for World Cup Fever!
After 4 years, it's finally upon us again.I'm talking about the World Cup, only the greatest spectacle there is.If you didn't know, I love me my football. I leave the EPL to the husband, but when it comes to the World Cup and Euro, you'll find me up with the boys, following the action, dissecting tactics, cheering the goals, and (ahem) yelling at the referee. The best World Cup in my opinion was South Korea-Japan 2002 because I got to watch every single match. Those were the days when my ... read more
Le Noir: Slick, Sensual, Sexy and Spectacular!
Slick, sensual, sexy and spectacular. That is Le Noir.We caught the show when it first rolled into town last year and were blown away by the experience. Le Noir is back in Singapore for a second run this June and when the opportunity arose for us to catch Le Noir again, my husband jumped at the chance. I, on the other hand, wasn't so sure I wanted to watch it again. I mean, I had really enjoyed it the first time but without that element of novelty, would it be as good the second time round? The ... read more
My Own Charlie & Lola
After talking so much about Charlie & Lola's Extremely New Play, I felt I had to make it a Charlie & Lola week by posting this. The last day of Term 2 is always celebrated with a Character Parade at the kids' kindy. This is also known as "Carton Character Day", and no, that is not a typo error -- I really did mean 'carton'. On this day, the kids are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite storybook character, with costumes made out of recycled materials. Each year is truly a ... read more
