I wanted to give Noey's lovely teachers something to thank them for their work over the past year, and I wanted it to be something that Noey could help to make. Given that it is the end of year, with Christmas approaching, this is what we came up with: Homemade snow globes! Created out of old jar jars and made possible by the generous contribution of Lego Santa/Gnome by our in-house Lego supplier (aka Papa). Noey had been asking to make a snow globe after seeing it done on, erm, ... read more
School’s Out!
Can it be that the end of the year is upon us just like that?Today was Noey's last day of school for the term. It was his last day in Nursery. Next year, he will be K1, with Primary school looming just over the horizon. The thought scares me more than just a bit.But today, it was a day to celebrate the end of the school year. And for this, his kindy had its annual water play day. They broke out the kiddy pools -- more than 10 of them, including a huge one that took over an hour to inflate and ... read more
Baked Pasta
Baked Pasta is one of my favourite party dishes to make. It was one of the dishes I cooked for Noah's recent party too. It's not too difficult, it's flavourful, and the kids love it. (So does my husband actually, but he is resigned to only seeing repeats of the dishes that the kids love!)The "trick" to this - if you can call it that - is that the meat sauce is made not with minced beef or pork, but with Italian Sausages. I started using sausage meat after following a Jamie Oliver recipe and ... read more
Decking the Halls
With the rain pouring down yesterday afternoon, I decided it was as good a time as any to get the Christmas tree up.Noey was most enthusiastic. "We need to listen to some Christmas songs," he said, and he proceeded to put pick out one of his favourites and set the CD player going. (This boy can listen to Christmas songs the whole year round if we let him!)It was a great suggestion on his part. The music, together with the wet weather outside, really set the tone for the whole festive ... read more
An Afternoon at Legoland Malaysia
On the day that Noey turned 4, we made an impromptu spur-of-the-moment visit to Legoland. We wanted to do something fun together as a family, and it was the obvious choice. The boys were terribly excited. "Wow, is it MY birthday?" asked my lego-loving husband. We had a quick lunch before we set off. Unbelievably, it only took us 45 mins to travel from the Botanic Gardens in Singapore to Legoland Malaysia. Yes, including clearing immigration through the Tuas checkpoint! The kids barely had ... read more
Reads :: Books About Space for Pre-Schoolers
One of Noey's favourite subjects to learn about is Space. I might have swung it back towards Dinosaurs with all the crazy stuff for his party, but Space is still up there! When I was hunting down appropriate books for him, I found our library a real treasure trove of informational books. These books are conveniently grouped together by topic on the shelves, so we found ourselves working our way through the shelf for pre-schoolers. (Check out the shelves for call numbers 523 and 629!) I guess ... read more
We Are On Facebook!
After waffling to and fro on this, I've finally gotten round to setting up a Facebook Page for this blog.Besides links to posts written on this blog, I hope to be able to share photos that give you snippets of what's going on in our daily lives, as well as share articles and interesting things that I read or come across that don't necessarily warrant a blog post. Given that I'm so behind on this blog anyway and have a million things sitting around in draft that intend to write about but never ... read more
This is My Tuesday
Yesterday, I marked the first anniversary of me being a Stay-At-Home-Mum (SAHM). I can't believe time has flown by so quickly! In my mind is a jumble of thoughts related to this topic which I need the time to sit down and sort out before I will be able to post anything coherent about it. Instead, I thought it might be fun capture a snippet of what my day looks like now as a SAHM with two young kids. It's Tuesday today, and this is how it might go. 7.15AM: My alarm goes off. If the children ... read more
The Things They Say
One of the things I most enjoy about parenthood is hearing the funny things come out of the kids' mouths. I just love that insight it gives into the stuff that goes on in their minds. Now that Nomi is actively communicating, she has joined in on the act too. Here's a sampling of some of the random things that they say that keep me amused at home.********** Noey: Mummy, I want 10 children!Me: 10?!Noey: And hundreds of brothers!Me: Hundreds?! Wow, why so many?Noey: So that Mei-mei won't be the ... read more
About Reading and Good Reads
Good books are a commodity in our household. My little bookworm. We are always pulling out books to read to the kids. I guess it's because we - DD and I - both love books, and were both avid readers in our childhood. Yes, I was one of those kids who read under the bedcovers with my torchlight just so I could finish a book when my mother deemed it past my bedtime. I remember getting into trouble quite a bit for that and don't relish having to go through the same thing with my kids! I still love ... read more
