Always, always be careful what you wish for.Ever since he was born, I have been the one who puts Noey to sleep every night. When I'm home, I put him down for naps too. When he was younger, this frequently involved nursing. Whipping out the boob was a sure fire way of getting him to sleep. When we stopped, this progressed to the elbow grabbing, leg stroking, etc. But it always had to be Mummy, and I'll admit it -- I resented it at times. Those times when I was wide awake but chained to the bed ... read more
Lunching with the Little Lady
I guess the thing about being a second child is that you rarely have the undivided attention of both your parents at the same time. I have said it before, and I'll say it again: first-borns are a privileged lot.Anyhow, when DD came home on Thursday bearing the glorious news that his impending 16-day overseas reservist stint had been deferred, we decided that it was cause for celebration. And with Noey at school, we ended up bringing little Naomi out for lunch with us at Riders' Cafe."One of us ... read more
The 7th Month
My dearest Meips,Quietly, in the shadow of your brother turning 3, you turned 7 months old. Ok, that probably isn't entirely accurate. There wasn't anything quiet about you this month. Except maybe those moments when you're sneakily trying to put something into your mouth. Then again you manage to yell quite a bit even with food in your mouth.Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. This past month has been a very busy month for you. Over the course of the month, you've become this MOBILE bundle of ... read more
Noey’s First Prayer
We have a practice of praying with Noey every night before he goes to bed. It started out with DD praying for all of us, but has recently evolved into a practice where DD prays and Noey repeats after him.On Saturday night, DD was suffering from a bad sore throat, so he asked me if I would pray instead. "I will pray!" quipped Noey. We were more than happy to let him pray for all of us. And this is what he came up with:"Thank God for the world so sweet.Thank you God for the sky.Thank you God for ... read more
Goodbye, I-Ti
Tonight, my helper Marilou will be returning home for good, after 3 years with our family. I'm really going to miss her. I wanted her to stay longer and she wanted to stay too, but circumstances are such that she has to go home. I still wish that it didn't have to be this way, but I have come to accept that it is in God's plan. Indeed, when I think about how wonderfully everything has come together over the past few weeks, I know that God is in control, and this gives me great comfort. I will ... read more
Turning 3 with Thomas
This was the birthday celebration that Noey really wanted. He had it all visualised in his head. "Noey will bring a cake to school and all my classmates will sing "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to Noey, happy birthday to you!" Like that."Well, he got his wish. Since this was the only celebration I intended to have for him before we cobbled together the last minute small gathering at home, I tried to make it a nice one for him. I asked him what cake he wanted. "A ... read more
Turning 3 with Family
We had a really simple celebration for Noey at home on Sunday, the very day of his birthday. After having a big party for his 1st birthday and slightly smaller one for his 2nd birthday, I decided to take a break from all the partying this year. I thought it's be more fun for us to just bring him out the day before, on Saturday. (He certainly had a ball of a time when we hit Amazonia again!) The family kept asking when the party was though, so in the end, we had only our immediate family come over ... read more
Fantastic Four Turn Three
The Oct Babies celebration is always the first one to kick off Noey's birthday celebrations and this year was no exception. We had a gathering at our place the Sunday before Noey and Bean's birthdays and it was such a pleasure to see everyone again! We're 3!I think we were not prepared for the onslaught of kids. Last year, there were 5 of them, and Dot was a baby. This year there were 8 kids! And with the exception of newborn Bubbles, everyone else was mobile! Yikes. We all had our hands full. ... read more
He’s 3!
I ask for a smile and I get this. The t-shirt -- a gift from his Godma Daphne -- says it all.I can't believe that just like that, he's 3. Happy birthday Noey! We love you, ugly faces and all! ... read more
Night Time Chats
Putting Noey to sleep every night is not something I look forward to. In fact, it is something I positively dread on some nights. I don't know why he finds it so hard to go to sleep. Then again, every time I say that DD will look at me meaningfully and my "sleep-is-a-waste-of-time" genes feel guilty.I appreciate him being asleep when finally he knocks off, but the process of getting him there is frequently long and arduous. There are the complaints -- the many repeated "I'm not tired!" and "I ... read more
