Back To The Rat Race

August 22, 2011 by Mummybean 5 Comments

I took my first steps to going back to work last Wednesday, and again today when I was called back to cover some Board meetings. Easing myself in, in a sense, before I officially start next Friday.I was in denial for most of the week before I forced myself to get all my things sorted the night before, and packed that instantly recognisable Medela PIS backpack. On a sidenote, I'm embarrassed that it's taken me having my 2nd child to realise you can pull the pump out of the bag. I'm on ... read more

5+ Months

August 14, 2011 by Mummybean 9 Comments

Little Miss Cutie PieDearie Mimi,Here's yet another really late update. Sorry. This time though, you have to take some of the blame. Recently, it's been incredibly HARD to put you down for a nap. You are only happy to take that morning nap, two hours after you wake up. You go down for about an hour, if I'm lucky. The naps for the rest of the day are really touch-and-go affairs. You are obviously tired, but you struggle mightily to stay awake. You'll eventually fall asleep while being carried, ... read more

Why U No Sleep??

August 14, 2011 by Mummybean 13 Comments

I think that if I ever had to go it alone on my own as a SAHM without my helper, none of my kids would nap.We are at that phase (at least, I hope it is a phase!) where Noey would choose not to nap if it was up to him, and Naomi just doesn't want to be put down. She would snap awake as soon as she touches the rocker/bed/swing. It's terribly annoying. I had one of those days last week when Noey didn't nap at all. I wouldn't be as grieved about it if I could claim back the 1.5 hours I spent in ... read more

Birthday Boy

August 13, 2011 by Mummybean 6 Comments

It's the husband's birthday today.I asked him what he wanted to do to celebrate, whether he wanted to do something special, but he just wanted to spend time with the family. We had lunch at Raffles City and spent some time wandering around the mall after my plans to bring us all to the ACM to see the terracotta warriors were derailed by an uncooperative Noey. After returning home for the kids to nap and all of us to chill out, we headed out again to Orchard to shop for some homeware appliances. ... read more

Staycation Vacation

August 8, 2011 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

We're on a mini-break for National Day! Both in celebration of our nation and the fact that we survived the month without our helper! Hah.Seriously, it's just been too long since our last holiday and when I failed to get tickets for the national day parade yet again, I decided to splurge a little bit and get us a room with a view of the parade and the fireworks. It's also an early celebration of DD's birthday, which is coming up shortly. It's Naomi's first holiday, and the crucial question is: ... read more

Painting like the Masters

August 2, 2011 by Mummybean 9 Comments

"I want to paint," he said, "like Julie and Claude Monet." He wouldn't take no for an answer and Papa couldn't distract him with something else, so Noey had a good time with his paints last night. The result: The artwork... ... and two grouchy parents. At least he got the colours kind of close! In all honesty, his favourite part was squeezing paint into the paint palette. My least favourite part was trying to stop him from wasting all that paint as he filled the palette till overflowing. We all ... read more

Girls Just Want To Have Fun

July 29, 2011 by Mummybean 6 Comments

We are starting to realise that our little Nomi, she probably isn't as enamoured with books as Noey is. You read to her and she starts getting restless quickly, wriggling to get away.Show her a toy however, you've got her attention. Oh, oh, oh! Mummy has actually decided to give me one of Gor-Gor's toys! What luck!Just a bit more and I'll be able to reach it... c'mon, focus!Got it! Now, what does this do...Guess I've just got to taste it to find out!Don't think Noey's going to be too pleased ... read more

Child Label It!

July 28, 2011 by Mummybean 5 Comments

I don't know about you, but I just LOVE personalising stuff. DD's always rolling his eyes at how I want my name on everything, and how the words "free engraving" make my heart skip a beat. When Noey was going to start school this term, I hunted high and low for name stickers for him to put on everything he would be bringing or wearing to school -- his school bag, his water bottle, his clothes and his shoes. I ended up ordering name labels for him online from an Australian retailer because I ... read more

Put Your Hand in Mine

July 27, 2011 by Mummybean 3 Comments

If I ever wondered if Noey loves his sister, the answer is yes, he does.Admittedly, he did make her cry first, by insisting that we lower the sunshade on her carseat so that he could see her. Poor Naomi was trying to sleep so when we moved the sunshade, she SCREAMED, whereupon Noey quickly raised the sunshade again and reached over to try to comfort her. She settled eventually and when I looked over, there he was, holding her hand.On days like these, I feel like I want a Gor-Gor like Noey too. ... read more

Tramping on Tracks

July 25, 2011 by Mummybean 2 Comments

Like everyone else, we also spent some time walking the old KTM tracks before they were closed to the public.Noey was most excited when I told him about our little excursion. "We can pretend to be the Fat Controller!" he said, amongst other things.I feel no nostalgia for the discontinuation of the line except in one respect. Back when we were staying in our previous apartment, the railway line ran along one of the perimeter walls. When we first considered buying the place, that was in fact one ... read more
