Crown Bakery & Cafe: Starting My Weekend Right

June 12, 2015 by Mummybean 4 Comments

I love my husband but if there’s something about him that drives me bananas, it is his inability to wake up early in the morning. This usually comes to a head on weekend mornings when I wake up full of energy and raring to go and he can barely get his eyes open to acknowledge my impatient attempts to wake him up.

Rather than get frustrated, my solution has been to whisk the kids out for breakfast on our own on such Saturday mornings. Noey would bring a book and Mei her art materials and we would head out to a cafe not too far from home to grab a bite.

Crown Bakery & Cafe is one such new joint that we’ve been checking out and so far, it checks all the right boxes. It opens at 7.30am, has good coffee and serves some up some interesting and yummy baked goods.

CrownBakery4What shall we have today?

CrownBakery6Delicious and pretty matcha brioches

CrownBakery5Hainanese Chicken Bread, anyone? I love that they have samples and couldn’t resist trying this, which I thought had an interesting savoury flavour.

CrownBakery9Getting into her chocolate croissant. This is her standard order at bakeries and this one got her stamp of approval.

But what we have fallen in love with are the waffles. These sourdough waffles are really some of the best we’ve had. Crisp on the outside, they have a lovely chewy texture. We usually just have them plain with the butter and maple syrup and I have to fight the kids off for my share or I won’t get any! They also serve these with fruit and ice cream but I haven’t had the stomach for that in the morning. Perhaps we’ll pop in one afternoon to have that for tea.

CrownBakery3Crisp and chewy sourdough waffle! ($6 with just butter and maple syrup.)

CrownBakery2Happy smiles for waffle mornings!

CrownBakery7The Queen’s Eggs Ben ($18). This was pretty good though I’ve had better.

Mostly, I just enjoy the opportunity to start the day with my two munchkins. It’s a bonus when they like the food. Extra points when they get along!

CrownBakery1Some sibling harmony is always welcome. Especially when they make for picture perfect moments!

Overall, Crown Bakery gets our thumbs up. Now, who wants waffles this weekend?

My friend who is very particular about food, says that their croissants are the best in Singapore! Sure looks like a lovely place.

Oo, really? I must get one the next time then. Mei doesn’t really let me near her choc croissant but it did seem really good.
